Jennefer Hoffmann’s sculptural works are intimate, nuanced, and thought-provoking expressions of the artist’s personal interiority as well as shrewd demonstrations of her innate technical prowess. As “landscapes of memory”, the sculptures reflect the complex human desire to encapsulate a feeling into a tangible artifact – whether fleeting or one that lasts. thing to start to grow in another direction in appears steeple-like, and architectural, yet also organic – with the top of the work appearing to gracefully emerge from the structure below.
Beginning with clay slabs, she pinches the forms into shape using her hands, and as she observes, the process of pinching, “became my primary language over the years.” Composed of porcelain and a creamy glaze, this monumental sculpture is large in scale and its title may refer to a personal evolution that feels both joyful and promising.
