The Biedermeier style became fashionable in Central Europe during the first half of the 19th century. Due to the advancements of industrialization and a burgeoning middle class, domestic spaces were furnished upon notions of sensibility, humility and temperance. During this period, “Biedermeier Glass” was very popular, achieved through new glassmaking techniques, including chemical treatments and industrial wheel-engraving. This charming, delicate, colorless vessel was produced in Germany in 1830, and is engraved with “little, but from the heart”, written in script. Floral motifs wrap around the glass with garlands and felicitations, a worthy offering to friendship.
