Sophie Stone
Untitled is a methodically handwoven medallion rug of cotton, velvet, and silk textiles by artist Sophie Stone. This piece has a rich, complex appearance of depth contrasted with the cheerful vibrancy of spirited magenta and cool aqua textural accents. Suggestions of symmetry are blurred through fluctuations of both different materials and textures, which infuse the work with a sense of spontaneity. Like much of Stone’s practice, the rug illustrates her preoccupation creating works over the course of time – slowly and deliberately expanding upon an idea until it reaches its natural completion.
