CHRISTIAN NEUREUTHER

German ceramicist Christian Neureuther began working as an apprentice at the renowned Wächtersbach earthenware factory in 1882. While studying at the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich, he was greatly influenced by the art nouveau style, propagated by Jugendstil artists of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony. He brought these experiences back to the Wächtersbach earthenware factory, establishing his own department. This handpainted vessel is a wonderful example of Neureuther’s work, with its organic shape and stylized geometric surface decoration. The rich chocolate glaze body is awash in vibrant fuschia cabbage roses and aquamarine leaves.
