Glass Roemer
Made in the late 17th century, this remarkable glass roemer is most likely of Dutch or German origin. Its size is more substantial than the diminutive roemer-style drinking vessels so ubiquitous at the time, seen in many still-life paintings from the period. Thus, this particular example was most likely used for ornamental display purposes. The large blown bowl rests atop a wide flared hollow spun foot, which is adorned with prunts, stamped like raspberries. Small bubbles are scattered throughout the glass, and there is a faint, hair-line fissure along the surface of the bowl, evidence of its old age.
