Ceramic Flower Brick 019
McDonald’s familiar yet ambiguous references to historical architecture appear in these chimney pot-like tulipieres. Each is slab-built from imperfect foundational shapes, mostly circles and squares, with sprigged decoration appropriate for a Tudor fireplace. There is a visual tension between the appearance of the heavy, brick-like structures and the delicate flowers which they intend to hold. These two conjoining cylindrical volumes appear in a deep aubergine glaze and low relief decoration, with multiple holes to showcase arrangements of individual flowers.
