Yorkshire Chair

Unknown

These chairs from the Yorkshire / Derbyshire border (England) date to around 1680 - 1720. Although the horseshoe-like back and acorn finial resembles something like a Moorish arch, as opposed to anything English, this is stylistically typical of the region. Rich in history and color, the highly patinated oak and relatively plain decoration of the upright backs create dramatic silhouettes that exude a sense of timelessness.
