Ceramic Bud Vase 009

McDonald’s familiar yet ambiguous references to historical architecture appear in these chimney pot-like tulipieres. Each is slab-built from imperfect foundational shapes, mostly circles and squares, with sprigged decoration appropriate for a Tudor fireplace. There is a visual tension between the appearance of the heavy, brick-like structures and the delicate flowers which they intend to hold. This slanted black glazed cuboid has shallow feet and molded decorations, with multiple punctuated holes to showcase arrangements of individual flower stems.
