Exploring ideas of organic decay and mutations in nature, Cameranesi Sgroi allows the glass to breathe, and to take on a life of its own. The result is an unexpected and almost uncanny expression of the material, which becomes corporeal in nature. The artist’s preoccupation with objects particularly suited for a celebratory occasion – a banquet, an intimate nightly ritual – retain a sense of sensuality and glamor, while simultaneously inviting a sense of bodily transformation, decay and even illness – sumptuous like pearls but also rigid like ice or bone.
