Fasciated II

Inspired partly by the visual vernacular of historical Italian nun habits, ready to take flight, these cups have a double chalice and exhibit a fluidity that resembles a moving fabric. Cameranesi-Sgroi was interested in the layers inherent in fasciated flowers, like an evening primrose or nasturtium. Furthermore, these objects particularly suited for a celebratory occasion – a banquet, an intimate nightly ritual – retain a sense of sensuality and glamor, while simultaneously inviting a sense of bodily transformation, decay and even illness – sumptuous like pearls but also rigid like ice or bone.
