This lady’s dressing box, made between 1810- 1830, is a wonderful example of the way in which throughout history, we care for and treasure objects of meaning. Carved,
and painted, the box features a mirror on the underside of its lid and is lined with paper from a time long ago. Its scale is unusually large, and allows for a variety of uses apart from just jewelry, just contents worthy of its protection – whether that’s a special letter or another token of affection.
