The Kadjar Dynasty in Iran (then known as Persia) was an era marked by a grand display of artistic expression and craftsmanship. The visual arts were means by which the Kadjar Shahs demonstrated their power and progressiveness. Up until this moment, iron was commonly utilized for arms and architectural elements; however, this era welcomed the use of the material for elaborate decorative designs for domestic objects. This 19th century iron mirror case is shaped like a cheerful sunflower. The case is crafted using the repousse technique, opening to reveal a mirror with a crimson velvet interior.
