Inspired by medieval English and French pottery, Jordan McDonald’s large Fraktur series explores the churlishness of ceramic material, and the inherent “push and pull” in the vessels’ construction. With an onyx toned slip that appears to drip down the surface, there are faint traces of delicate sgraffito. The vessels appear almost pre-historic, and depict organic figurative forms and decorative patterning. A pair of rounded handles and pronounced curved lip reference traditional pottery forms.
