Simon Candelabrum

Bořek Šípek

Czech architect and designer Bořek Šípek created the Simon Candelabrum for the Italian design company Driade, in 1988. Though architecture became his primary focus, he designed decorative objects in glass, porcelain, and silver. Informed by the rich history of ornament and decorative arts, Šípek’s works often humorously reference a baroque vernacular within a contemporary postmodern context.

The imposing silver-plated candelabrum is constructed with a conical base punctuated with holes and seven tiered candleholders, which appear to be rising to the surface like seaweed undulating in the rhythm of ocean tides.
