Eileen Gray
The Tube Light Floor Lamp is an iconic design by the inimitable Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray. Originally designed in 1927, Gray was interested in the way in which the industrial tungsten strip tube light could be utilized within the domestic interior. Made of a spun steel base and plated in polished chrome, the light emits a warm, soft glow that contrasts with the coldness of the metal structure.
As such, the light embodies Gray’s preoccupation with Modernist ideals regarding functionality and austerity, while firmly insisting on the importance of warmth and sensuality in design.
