Calyx Crater XL

Skye Chamberlain

Calyx Crater XL by the artist Skye Chamberlain is a cast bronze vessel that appears to almost emerge from the smoldering earth. Inspired by the forms of Greek Stamnos or Amphora, the vessel is classical in form but also appears scrappy in its construction, hand built from a wax mold. Tilted and warped, faint fingerprints can be detected in the bronze finish, as evidence of the hand and a nod to the historical tradition of archival cultural preservation.
