Arts and Crafts Room Divider
Friend to William Morris, Dante Gabriel Rosetti was a collector of antiques and would often share designs with Morris for his company to produce, as he too was looking at history for inspiration. The practical room divider may be something that Morris & Co. produced for Rosetti, as it presents something typical of the movement: quality craftsmanship and truth to materials. The mustard silk panels, reupholstered in c. 1920s, were once perhaps patterned with Morris printed textiles. The frame has been re-ebonised with glittering golden patterned highlights.
