Resonance (x-ray) Sconce

Madeline Coven

New York based artist Madeline Coven’s Resonance (x-ray) Sconce is a quietly disarming and alluring work that elegantly evokes ancient geological modalities. An ode to the vast capacity of organic material, the enclosed shade is made of rich goat hide that is both tautly affixed to its frame and gently folded and gathered at its base. Hand-sewing affixes the shade into position, echoing the long tradition of handicraft of dense and luxurious textiles. Given its dermal composition, the light transmits a soft celestial glow.

At the center, the sconce is embellished with a constellation of organically formed pewter relics, reminiscent of imaginary found objects from the past.
