Brooched Arum Sconce

Madeline Coven

New York based artist Madeline Coven’s Brooched Arum Sconce is made out of cowhide and bonded together with welded steel. The work’s organic shape recalls a calla lily, gently converging to overlap in the center like a flower in bloom. An added exhalation of this central resting point is what could be perceived as a brooch, conjoining the overlapping moments.

An embellishment of a pewter-cast relic conjures the spirit of a geological artifact and inspires curiosity about the original form it inhabited, many centuries before this one.
