Ingo Maurer
The Ilo Ilu Light Sculpture was designed by Ingo Maurer for Ingo Maurer GmbH in the 1990s. Affectionately regarded “the poet of light”, Maurer was a German industrial designer who collaborated with his team to produce inventive lighting systems. The work is a fanciful realization of Maurer’s preoccupation with the singular bulb and its capacity to manipulate – even sculpt – light in endless ways. Constructed with delicate miniature objects like mirrors, spheres, an arrow, halogen lightbulb and plastic reflectors, the kinetic work naturally moves acrobatically in space.
The sculpture was designed with flexibility in mind, as the light refraction can be intentionally directed by adjusting the positioning of the mirror.
