Drifter Sconce

Madeline Coven

A voyage into themes of impermanence and discovery, New York based artist Madeline Coven’s Drifter Sconce is a tribute to found treasure. This work, conjuring the posture of a beautifully distorted-looking glass, is an artifact of resin, fiberglass, pewter and walnut. A loosely woven textile-like grid of fiberglass melts into itself and light arches like a sunset in its center, dipping into a sharp horizon line.

The glowing orb smolders upon the oceanic pewter sculpture resting at the base of the light. A warped mushroom or cumulonimbus cloud adrift, this striking formation appears to be dynamically morphing in real time.
