The Verge of Seas to Be
For “Play!”, artist Elliot Camarra’s works unfold around a loose narrative of a vessel far out at sea, where the horizon dissolves into a disorienting abstraction of water and sky. Subtle natural phenomena become harbingers of change, movement, and hope, guiding the imagined sailor through an otherwise endless landscape. This narrative is further articulated through sculptural forms that allude to the tradition of storytelling through stage scenery maquettes. The Verge of Seas to Be takes the form of a small, talismanic object, positioned somewhere between sculpture, souvenir, and navigational charm. Constructed from wood, paint, shells, fabric, wire, and glue, the work centers on a pair of scallop shells and is finished with delicately hand-stitched applique.
