Pair of Capitello Ionico Chairs
This pair of Capitello Ionico chairs were designed in 1980 by the esteemed Milan-based artist and designer Piero Fornasetti. Fornasetti’s work is incredibly distinctive, characterized by classical references, tromp l’oeil imagery and playful illusions adorning a wide range of furniture and objects. Inspired by the Ionic capital, these particular chairs feature stark, lithographed columns in his typical trompe l’oeil fashion. Through his designs, Fornasetti transforms a classical architectural motif into a playful, two-dimensional illusion. Composed of lacquered wood and supported by solid wood legs, the chairs appear both structurally sound yet demonstrate an extremely slender silhouette, further exploring notions of perception.
