I Go Vaguely (I)
For “Play!”, artist Elliot Camarra’s works unfold around a loose narrative of a vessel far out at sea, where the horizon dissolves into a disorienting abstraction of water and sky. Subtle natural phenomena become harbingers of change, movement, and hope, guiding the imagined sailor through an otherwise endless landscape. This narrative is further articulated through sculptural forms that allude to the tradition of storytelling through stage scenery maquettes. I Go Vaguely I and II function as dioramas depicting abstracted oceanscape scenes, each contained within a painted wooden enclosure. Inside, antique glass elements, suspended and fastened with metal, fracture light and space. This produces ever-shifting reflections that create a sense of disorientation and confusion.
