Side Table
Gary Knox Bennett was an influential Bay Area American artist, furniture maker and metalsmith, well regarded within the American Studio Craft Movement that emerged in the mid-20th century. This 2005 side table exemplifies his enduring interest in material experimentation and compositional rigor. Constructed from a diverse array of hardwoods, bamboo, lacewood, pigmented epoxy and plywood, the table is an amalgamation of organic pattern and textures. A rectilinear tabletop is decorated with a natural spiral, and the table’s thick column support transitions into a splayed, cross shaped base. The unique table is signed and dated by the artist “In Oakland GKB Anno 05”.
