Victorian Spindled Chair
This ebonized side chair is most likely from the early 20th century. Meticulously constructed, the black painted wooden frame has unusually wavy spindles, reminiscent of pasta or tendrils of hair. The chair is lightweight and finely proportioned, and upholstered in woven floral fabric secured with metal rivets. Its strange proportions suggest an incoherent mix of design styles, an imaginative expression of taste and craftsmanship.
