Ghost Lamp (Clear)

“To lift an object into the air is always a sculptural act and there are many methods to suggest the poetic notion of an object floating in space.”

In his new lamp series, Joel Muggleton of LS GOMMA continues his exploration of rubber and metal mesh. Layers of pigment and varying mesh gauges diffuse light to create a rich surface and depth. Simple box-shaped forms are suspended onto large stainless steel needles, which are fabricated to different lengths for varying heights. These needles pierce into the structures rather than simply upholding them, transforming their support into a sculptural gesture. In this way, LS GOMMA loosens the logic behind functional design, resulting in a more expansive and spirited expression of material, light and form.
