Regency Hall Chair
This Regency mahogany hall chair was made in England in the early 19th century. Featuring a shield-shaped back, the chair was designed to resemble classical armor as well as symbolize an honorable emblem of lineage. These rigid, upright chairs were often placed in entrance halls and vestibules, for display rather than use. This particular chair’s frame features reeded legs and ebonized sculptural detailing. A painted sky-blue crest adorns the chair back, depicting a fox above a crown, likely a heraldic or familial emblem.
