George III Hall Chair
This George III mahogany hall chair was made in England in the early 19th century. Featuring a shield-shaped back, the chair was designed to resemble classical armor as well as symbolize an honorable emblem of lineage. These rigid, upright chairs were often placed in entrance halls and vestibules, for display rather than use. A handpainted black crest adorns the chair back, elegantly depicting a set of wings and a singular star in their center, likely a heraldic or familial emblem.
