FOUR ANGLES, 2023

Isa Toledo

The monumental canopy, inspired by the mosquito nets of Toledo’s youth growing up in Brazil, is composed of a custom-made wool textile devised in Portugal by Toledo and Burel factory, which covers a handmade wooden structure. Like an inverted umbrella, the structure can be opened and closed to different levels to allow for a variety of angles at which the canopy is displayed. The canopy itself is held in place by white Portuguese pavement stones that are wrapped in black pongé silk, embroidered by Toledo with flowers.
