Ettore Sottsass
Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) was a prolific and greatly admired figure who started the well-renowned Memphis Group in 1980. In 1985, Sottsass left to found his own architecture firm, Sottsass Associati. It was there that Sottsass was commissioned to design the interiors for stores throughout Europe, such as the Esprit Showroom in Cologne. His imagination was unbridled and the showroom was a wild expression of a myriad of colorful veneers, cartoon-like forms and materials like patterned formica.
