Painted Tole Umbrella Stand
This English red-painted tole umbrella stand, dating to around 1900, is a strong example of both durable and decorative metalwork. Finished in a fire-engine red, the surface is ornamented with gilt griffins and a Greek Key border, combining mythological imagery with classical patterning. The stand rests on curved feet and is topped with small gilt finials. Both practical and decorative, the piece would have been used to store umbrellas and walking sticks.
