Hannan Chair, 1985

TERUAKI OHASHI FOR INOUE INDUSTRIES INC.

The monumental Hannan Chair by Teruaki Ohashi for Inoue Industries Inc. in 1985 is an iconic design displaying the most curious and playful proportions. Composed of an almost otherworldly, curly lacquered metal frame with a batik dyed seat and back, as well as other cushions stacked à la “Princess and the Pea”, the chair is a testament to Ohashi’s inquiry into both new forms and techniques of making.
