Grace Atkinson
Grace Atkinson's ever-evolving practice exhibits an utmost meticulousness, remarkable artistic deftness as well as the artist’s deep well of thoughtfulness and feeling. In Soft Delirium, a found frame holds traces of inscriptions the artist added that resonate with her predilection for making pacts between time and feelings. This tactile exploration of nostalgia, comes from the etymological meaning of the word, which comes from the Greek “return home” and “pain”.
However, through this work Atkinson achieves an emancipation from the sometimes intolerable weight of the word, to invoke a celebration of memory. Composed of a found wooden frame, cotton fabric, acrylic paint and plywood, emptiness sits adjacent to an improvised composition, like a forgetful memory.
