Crater Sconce: Clavius

Each work in Crater Sconce Series was made by pouring sheets of pewter into a tray, manipulating it as it cooled to create unique surface textures and forms. Each shape was then carefully bent and mounted on a mahogany base, and secured with cast pewter hardware. The works – Tycho, Humbolt, Metius, Clavius – were named after craters on the moon. The surfaces evoke topographic maps – a cartography of abstracted landscapes or dioramas viewed from above. Through this aerial perspective, the series balances sculptural exploration with composition, inviting contemplation of terrain, elevation, and natural forms. If viewed from a linear perspective, the works can be seen as compositions or landscapes.
