Joana Avillez is an illustrator from and still living in New York. Her drawings and illustrated pieces have been published in the New Yorker, the New York Times, New York magazine, and the New York Review of Books, as well as many other places without ‘New York’ in the title. She recently illustrated an ancient Roman cookbook published by Apartamento in Barcelona. Her illustrated edition of Joseph Mitchell’s classic The Bottom of the Harbor is out from Penguin Random House in April 2026.
