Elana Bowsher (b. 1990, San Francisco, CA) lives and works in Los Angeles. Bowsher creates abstractions shaped by Expressionism, Orphism, postwar painting, and the organic vocabularies of the natural world. Her canvases draw on cells, fungi, seeds, and filtered light, merging these references with fluid pours that introduce chance into a disciplined studio process. Bowsher works from sketches, watercolors, and notational studies, developing an internal archive of forms that migrate across paintings. Trained first in ceramics, Bowsher’s work treats painting as a site of material experimentation and transformation.

She has been the subject of solo and two person exhibitions at Hannah Hoffman, Los Angeles (2024); T293, Rome (2023); and Alexander Berggruen (2020, 2021). She has an upcoming two person exhibition with Zoë Carlon at 12.26 in Houston, TX.Bowsher's work is included in the permanent collection of the Stevenson Arts Foundation, San Jose, CA. She is represented by Hoffman Donahue in New York and Los Angeles.
