While abstract, they offer glimmers of figuration, with forms that oscillate between the organic and the anthropomorphic. Although De Francesco is best known for his paintings and works on paper, ceramics have been part of his practice for several years. These works are among the first sculptures he has exhibited publicly. Rooted in De Francesco's own gestural vocabulary, each of these three sculptures retains the traces of its making. Physical accumulation of material becomes a way to give form to the artist’s inner world, allowing intimacy and vulnerability to surface.

Year: 2021

Material: Glazed stoneware

Dimensions: W 11 x D 9 H 12 in
