His Savonarola chair takes its name from its crisscross legs that form an “X”, a structure that traditionally allowed the chair to fold. While earlier examples were made of wood, this version reflects Bach’s impressive skill in metalwork design. The back features a detailed portrait, possibly of a knight, alongside refined scrollwork. The chair also includes a brightly colored and patterned upholstered seat cushion (perhaps original).

Year: Early 20th century

Material: Brass, painted steel, upholstered cushion

Dimensions: W 20 x D 18 ½ x H 38 ¾ x SH 18 in
